Authentic 1984/85 Michael Jordan Rookie Year Wilson Sporting Goods Company Chicago, Illinois Promotional Autograph Signing Event At Montgomery Ward Michael Jordan Signed Photo With Polaroid Picture from the Wilson Michael Jordan Air Attack 2000 Basketball Signing Event. This amazing piece of NBA Michael Jordan sports history has never-before been offered in this complete form. This signed autograph comes from one of Michael Jordan’s very first promoted public autograph signing events held at the Montgomery Ward in Chicago as a Wilson Sporting Goods Inc. promotional event. It was one of Jordan’s earliest public signing events and considered by many experts to be Jordan’s first fully authenticated public signing events that was offered through David Falks’ ProServ sports management and marketing firm.
This is an opportunity to own both the ultra-rare rookie year Michael Jordan autograph and one of the few known photos of Michael Jordan in action at this ultra-rare signing event. The young man pictured “Mike” was one of the first in line to meet Jordan and get both a signed photo and a signed 1985 Wilson Michael Jordan Air Attack Wilson 2000 Basketball (pictured). His father had the foresight to snap a rare Polaroid picture of the signing. The photo authenticates the signature and provides a rare unpublished documentation of one of the rarest autograph signing events in NBA history. The autograph reads “To Mike Michael Jordan” and has all the elements of his earliest autographs! In the picture you can see Michael Jordan in his famous 1985 Air Jordan 1 Flight Suit and wearing the seldom seen 1985 Guy Laroche Paris “Rookie Time” Michael Jordan Watch. There is a stack of unsigned photos as well as boxes of the first 1985 Wilson Michael Jordan Air Attack Wilson 2000 Basketballs in the foreground (distinguished by the original all black box marked and labeled 2000 Competitive). This rare signed rookie photo measures 11” X 8.5”.  Unlike the later 7″ X 5″ Ruven Afandor denoted photos that followed at later events. He went on to do only a handful more public signings after this and these photos are usually smaller (5” X 7”) and have the Proserv Inc. 888 Seventeen Street N.W. Washington D.C. (202-457-8800) printing on them. Our shop is grading both the signed photo and Polaroid at VG (Very Good) for moderate to heavy signs of age and wear. The signed photo has many small wrinkles, mild wear and rub marks throughout, small pin holes at all four corners and mild to moderate staining throughout. The Polaroid has seam separation on the back, moderate abrasions on the front and back and a pin hole in the top seam.
